Family Law
Lasting Power of Attorney
A lasting power of attorney lets you choose in advance who will make decisions for you about property, personal or medical matters, if one day you can no longer decide yourself. It is signed before a lawyer certified for this, and deposited with the Administrator General.
When should you contact a lawyer?
- You want to plan ahead, rather than leave it to a court-appointed guardian.
- There is an elderly parent in the family, and you want to act in time.
- Before significant medical treatment.
- You want to leave advance instructions about medical care.
